Making millions with help from the media

Making millions with help from the media

Making millions with help from the media. Michelle Mone, founder of the Ultimo lingerie brand is a Baroness, a multi-millionairess and an extraordinary business woman.  Dragon Peter Jones made a very insightful programme called ‘How We Made Our Millions’ in which he talked to her about how she got Ultimo off the ground. Cashflow was a huge problem, and Michelle simply could not afford to advertise Ultimo, even though it was about to launch in Selfridges, but how else could she let the public know about her lingerie? The answer was an inspired and very daring publicity stunt! “I hired 12 actors and dressed them as plastic surgeons and gave them banners saying ‘Ban the Ultimo bra because it is putting us out of work’ and got them to protest outside the store. “I was hoping and praying it would work. When I was driving to the launch up Oxford Street the taxi driver said the street was blocked with people. The place was swarming with photographers and it was known as the biggest bra launch in Europe – all for £500! Selfridges sold out six months’ stock in three hours.” Michelle continued to make made marvellous use of the media to keep her brand in the public consciousness, by sharing details of her difficult childhood in a Glasgow tenement, when she and her family did not have a bath or a shower and speaking openly about how she piled on weight when her business life got stressful, and about how she successfully lost all the weight again, as well as provoking an angry response from Rod Stewart when...
Can your ENERGY get you famous?

Can your ENERGY get you famous?

Can your ENERGY get you famous? We talk a lot about the importance of your brand, when we talk about marketing, PR and publicity. But what about your vibe? What about your energy? Does this have an effect on magnetising media opportunities, on making the most of those opportunities and on attracting your clients? Lets think about it! What makes a person magnetic? What makes a person attractive? What makes people want to be influenced by you and buy from you? What are some of the qualities that people like to be around? If you are vibrant, passionate, whole hearted, fun loving, friendly, compassionate, honest, authentic, enthusiastic, interested, adventurous, curious, kind, generous, optimistic, creative, courageous, imaginative……all of these are qualities that human beings are naturally attracted to, and this applies whether you are attending a party or appearing on Letterman, being profiled in a newspaper or chatting on the radio. So how does this work? People create brands, people become brands and people are attracted to brands…….for the same reasons that we are attracted to people. Think about it. Oprah, Richard Branson, George Clooney, Kate Moss, Kylie Jenner, Justin Bieber, Vivienne Westwood, Beyonce, Meryl Streep, Ed Sheeran…….it doesn’t matter what you are selling, people will always form opinions about your brand based on what YOU radiate, what YOU transmit, what YOU make them feel when they experience you.  If people love you, it will predispose them to try your product. So it is important to start putting out attractive energy, even before you meet your public, even before you start appearing in the media because if you read ‘The...
Do you know that your soul has a mission and purpose, but feel a bit like a shy wallflower, hiding your light?

Do you know that your soul has a mission and purpose, but feel a bit like a shy wallflower, hiding your light?

Do you know that your soul has a mission and purpose, but feel a bit like a shy wallflower, hiding your light? Are you a tad afraid to let the whole world know what you have to offer? Do you feel conflicted…on the one hand wanting to shine and knowing that you need to shine, but on the other hand preferring the comfort of staying small and hidden and anonymous, perhaps wary of criticism, judgement, and of standing out? I am an Angel Channeller, but I am also a media coach, and it is my mission, my passion, and my delight to facilitate everyone who has something of value and benefit to contribute to other people’s lives in a way that uplifts our energy, helps us to be happier and healthier and more loving and co-operative with each other. Promotion, particularly when it is self promotion, or promoting our own work can bring up LOTS and LOTS of limiting beliefs, blocks, fears and other STUFF. For some of us, it is part of our work in this lifetime to DISMANTLE, UNCREATE and TRANSMUTE these limits and fears, that simply hold us back from being of service and from experiencing the financial abundance as well as the joy, wellbeing and personal satisfaction that we know is possible for us! As a media coach, I am very unorthodox in my approach! I don’t see the media as an enemy that we need to be ‘trained’ to deal with, and I don’t teach people to change their personalities so that they can be bubbly and shiny and I also don’t teach people...
The 5 B’s of being a media darling

The 5 B’s of being a media darling

The 5’B’s of being a media darling Does such a thing as a ‘media darling’ really exist? If so, what is it?  And what use is it? If you have something to promote/market sell the hell out of, then read on!!! It doesn’t matter whether what you are offering is bean to bar chocolate, cool coffee, a dating agency, a life coaching service, a bakery, a plumbers or a woolly jumper knitters, everyone needs customers.  And everyone needs an easy, effective and affordable way to reach as many genuine customers as possible, so that we can sell  our chocolate/jumpers/plumbing/coffee. Agreed? Using the media (by this I mean newspapers, magazines, television and radio shows and online publications/blogs) is not only a great way to reach millions of people, it means doing so with the added bonus of ‘social proof’ and a seal of approval fro an established brand, as well as giving you content to share on social media which attracts, intrigues and inspires your customers! If your customers love Vogue and Vogue loves you, they will be far more interested in you than in somebody that does not have the Vogue seal of approval.  Likewise if your customers love ‘Vice’ or ‘Horse and Hound’ or ‘Motorhome Monthly’…. Before you freak out, I am not talking about paid advertising, I am talking about getting yourself FEATURED for free by becoming the CONTENT that newspaper and magazine editors NEED to create their product, and that TV and radio producers require in order to function. Being a media darling is a WIN WIN for everyone involved!  If I write about you in...
Can you have TOO MUCH media attention?

Can you have TOO MUCH media attention?

Can you have TOO MUCH media attention? You may be worried that if you start to get media exposure and attention, you might end up with more than you want and more than you need! It is true that if you become well known, people will be interested in you, and if people are interested in you, the media will be interested in you.  And while you may only want attention when you are selling your products or services or when you are launching something and you want customers to know about it, it is possible that if you become a very public figure, the media might give you attention when something bad happens in your life, when you get caught having an affair, when you have a nasty accident, or even worse, when somebody you love dies and you are bereaved. Many famous people have experienced this.  Princess Diana was perhaps the most well known example of a person who attracted media attention 24/7 no matter what was happening in her life, and much of the media attention that she got was intrusive and disturbing.  When she was killed, her children also had to deal with being photographed at a time when they were mourning her and not in the mood.  My partner recently lost his mother in a tragic accident, and he was photographed looking grief stricken and in shock, which is not how anyone likes to see themselves on the cover of a newspaper!  And when you are provoked, and you become angry, you may be inclined to retaliate, which will only make for a better...
