war oneEvery time I turn on the News, I see people fighting in all kinds of different wars, all over the world. I just wondered what the angels would think about war? So I asked them!
Is it ever a good idea to fight a war?

Obviously, in an ideal world people would not kill each other, but what if one group of people are attacking another group, such as is happening in lots of places at the moment? Is it ever a good plan to attack them, in order to stop them from doing it?
A
This is an excellent question!
As you say, there are many groups of people attacking and killing other groups of people in your world, and sometimes it may seem that the only course of action is to intervene and kill those people.
Of course there is no simple answer to this question.
Instead, there are questions to be asked.
Supposing you had twelve children, and four of those children began attacking and killing the other children? Would you think it a good plan to intervene and kill the troublesome four?

Me
Good question!
I would hope to be able to stop them without killing them?
A
Ah, but supposing the children were armed and determined, and supposing they turned their weapons on you, when you tried to stop them? Would you think it a good plan to kill them?
Me
I suppose I would have no choice?
A
Is it true that you would have no choice?
Me
I would have the choice to do nothing. And if they could not be reasoned with, and they were trying to kill me as well as the other children, I would probably have to kill them?
A
What would it be like if you did nothing?
Me
Would that even be possible? If they were my children?
A
It would be possible. But you would need to ask yourself how you would feel if you intervened? And how you would feel if you did not?
Me
To be honest, it surprises me that you would even consider that it might be okay to kill people! I thought angels would have a strict ‘thou shalt not kill’ policy!
A
Perhaps we do not have such strict policies as you think we should?!!!
Perhaps we respect your judgement in this regard, and perhaps we would not wish to influence you?
Me
Well, that makes it very difficult. I think I would most definitely want to preserve the lives of all my children, but if I were put in an impossible situation where they were killing each other, then I might have to kill some of them to save the rest. Even though it would be dreadful.
A
You would be doing it out of love for the remaining children?
Me
Yes, and I would have to live with the way that it felt, I suppose.
A
Sometimes, in war, this is the kind of choice that must be made. The choice to do nothing, or to intervene and preserve the lives of some of the people. Many people have had to make this choice, and have suffered pain as a result of it. But it is only you who can decide if you have made the right choice, and only you who can know if your choice was motivated by love or by something else.

Supposing the choice to intervene is being made out of fear? Fear that the bad guys will take over the world and control the rest of us or even kill us? Like the Nazis? Supposing the choice to kill them was being made not only out of a desire to save the people that they were killing but also out of fear that they might attack us?
A
You need to ask yourself whether you believe that it is ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ to kill in self defence? To kill in order to preserve your own life?
Me
You mean to say that you don’t have the answer to that question?
I dont know if it is right or wrong, but I suspect that I would fight back, if someone were trying to kill everyone and they came after me! I don’t think that I would want to turn the other cheek, although I would probably want to run away and hide!
A
Again, this is a situation in which you need to decide for yourself which is the right choice. You may decide that your love of peace means that you need to fight! Or you may find that you prefer to surrender. But we do not judge you, whichever you decide. Remember that true love does not judge, true love is unconditional. And ultimately, you are the one loving all of you, loving the parts of you who will kill and the parts of you who will defend and the parts of you who will run away and the parts of you who will make each and every choice that is made in war and in every aspect of your life.
We do hope that our answer is helpful!
Me
Well, it has made me think!
