Should you get naked?
We all know that nudity and sex sell newspapers! They also sell magazines, blog posts, car tyres and pretty much anything else that you can think of. Ok, so not everybody is brave enough (crazy enough?) to strip off in order to promote a product, but if this is something that you are willing to consider, it can be a great way to grab the attention of the media and get your product or service noticed.
When people ask me if this is something that they should do, I ask them three questions.
Is it appropriate?
Will it actually benefit your product and generate sales? If you are selling a nude calendar like the Irish Farmers it is definitely appropriate! If you are selling beauty/skincare products, it can also be a huge advantage to pose naked and show off how great your bod is.
Think Roz Purcell. If you are selling health foods. Think the Happy Pear Twins.
Are you comfortable doing it?
You are the one who will have to live with your choice. Ultimately nobody else can decide this for you, but if you are worried about what other people will think, you may wish to ask yourself whose life are you living? And I will let you in on a secret. I posed naked for the cover of the Sunday Independent and I am still alive!!!
How can you make it fun?
You don’t have to be completely naked to get attention, you can be partially (strategically) covered, and you can have a lot of fun choosing which props you use. Many of the calendars use fun, cheeky poses that can be viewed by all the family, and the same applies to Sunday papers/mags. So if in doubt, why not have a friend experiment with some pics for you and see what you come up with?
